Coming to a foreign country, whether for holiday or a permanent stay, is a big thing. It is the kind of experience which you want to live through as intensely and completely as possible, getting to know every aspect the country you have come through. The language, although it is a very – perhaps even the most – important means of experiencing a country, is not all. One should immerse in a country’s culture, lifestyle and traditions in order to really get to know it well. Therefore, we believe that language classes should be complemented by additional cultural, social and tourist activities which we provide our students with. Have a look at our offer of exciting and fun events which we organize in the afternoon, evenings and at weekends.
Intensive courses: Afternoon and weekend program
The Centre for Polish Studies organizes an additional programme on week-day afternoons and evenings for students who come for the 2, 3, 4- week intensive courses.
In the afternoon, we offer a cultural programme that includes discussions about literature, art, history, film, politics, economics, and media (please let us know which topics interest you) as well as trips to the theatre, cinema, and gallery.
During weekends we organise excursions throughout Warsaw and near the area. In the past, we have visited various castles, parks, cathedrals in the area including such places as Zelazowa Wola, the place of Frederic Chopin’s birth, Kazimierz Dolny or Cracow, the former capital of Poland and old kings' residence.
You may be asked to pay for some activities. For example, a ticket to the theatre, cinema or excursions that are organised on Saturdays.
All courses: Enjoy Poland, enjoy Warsaw!
We often organize various excursions, cultural and social events for all of our students. Activities are organized according to the interests and needs of the students; we can easily organize events other than listed below on request.
At the beginning and end of each course we usually organize a welcoming / farewell parties for our students. These take place either at the premises of our school or at a pub/club and allow students to get to know one another (and their teachers) in a casual and fun atmosphere.
Afternoon and evening activities: discussions moderated by the teachers or special guests (allowing you to improve your skills in Polish language, learning more about Polish culture and lifestyle and expressing your views on topics you find interesting), cultural trips (to theatres, galleries and cinemas), casual events (nights out in pubs and clubs, dinners in traditional Polish restaurants, jazz and rock concerts – get to know the Warsaw that a tourist guide will never tell you about!).
Weekend activities: guided excursions around Warsaw (parks, historical sites) and outside of it (e.g. to Zelazowa Wola – the birthplace of Frederic Chopin, Kazimierz Dolny – the picturesque holiday destination, historical cities of Cracow and Gdansk), as well as other fun outdoor activities allowing you to learn Polish in practical situations (barbecues, bike trips).
Special events: throughout the year we celebrate all major holidays with our students, introducing them to Polish tradition and celebrations. We organize, among others: Christmas and Easter parties, St. Andrew’s night (last night of November, an evening of future-telling games), All Saints’ Day (November 1st, when cemeteries are decorated), participation in historical reconstructions and celebrations on Independence Day (November 11th), the anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising (August 1st), the anniversary of Polish Constitution legislation (May 3rd).
You may be asked to pay for some activities. For example, a ticket to the theatre, cinema or excursions that are organised on Saturdays.
We want our students to enjoy their stay in Poland, and so we adjust our activities program to their needs and interests from time to time. Should you have any suggestions or requests regarding your desired after-school activities, let us know, and we’ll do our best to make your stay in Poland an unforgettable experience!
